Christmas is around the corner and no matter how broke we are and how rapidly our waistline might gain a few inches at this time of the year most of us will kick back, relax and enjoy ourselves a little too much. Oh well, that’s what holidays are all about.
So while we are having a well deserved great time, our bodies are stressing out due to symptoms of overindulgence. Here are some tips on how to treat our beautiful faces and bodies in such way that it will last us a while.
It’s almost the end of another year. Lots of partying, champagne, late nights and impulse buys. What we tend to forget in pre-Christmas rush is our beautiful selves.
With colder months we prefer coffees and teas over water, we use high streets and shopping malls as a cross trainer and instead of healthy meal it’s predominantly starchy earthy food. In a month time when Santa is knocking in our doors we feel heavy, mad and ready to hide in a PJs till the next year. In the meantime our skins are crying for help. The good thing is we can SOS faces faster than minds and bodies so by the time Christmas lunch is served your skin will look as glowing and glam as Strictly Come Dancing Xmas Special.
When time is precious and visit to your facialist or aesthetician is simply not possible I would recommend incorporating face masks into your home skincare routine so you always look your best! Face masks can be relaxing and pampering but at the same time will do the hard work and noticeably diminish the skin concern if you find a right product.
Here I have hand picked the face masks that can be beneficial for most of us.
GLAMGLOW Tingling and Exfoliating Mask has been specially developed for the entertainment industry starlets whose skin is often crying for GLAMGLOWhelp after the long hours on set. It visibly reduces pores, skin feels brighter, tighter. I found that if you use a ticker layer it will give you better results after the first use. My clients say that after GLAMGLOW skin feels soft and smooth and foundation stays in tact for longer. Available from Space NK, Marks & Spencer.
Because our skin can never have enough moisture and nourishment I have discovered that no matter how amazing your complexion is giving it an extra boost will never harm it.
Fresh Creme Ancienne Ultimate Nourishing Honey Mask is an Award Winning beauty buy that will buff, hydrate, smooth and improve elasticity in just 10 minutes. The results are not temporary as the skin felt plump and nourished for a few days so the price tag is totally fair. Available from Fresh boutique 92 Marylebone High Street, London 020 7486 4100.
Do you believe in miracles? I hope that there is still a little princess inside you that believes ‘everything is possible if you really really want it’. And what do us, grown up princesses want without exception? Yes, correct – beautiful young skin. We want to preserve what is there, we want to attack aging and eventually take it under control. There is no way to stop the clock ticking but there is a way to be late for a meeting with wrinkles in the mirror.
We are so lucky that we are living in the times of pure cosmeceutical fantasy. Yes, it can get crazy at times when you are trying to pick a wonder potion to do everything at once including ironing so perhaps I will be able to help choosing just the right one for you.
First sign of ageing skin is decreased moisture content. Dehydrated skin doesn’t discriminate between skin types. Oily skin can suffer from lack of moisture just as dry or sensitive skin can. Lifestyle has a lot to do with our skin condition as it affects our wellbeing from inside and outside. Therefore if you are using correct skincare for your age and concerns but keep smoking or not drinking enough water your skincare will not give you its full potential. When we make a decision to fight anti aging it has to be a battle on all fronts.
I have picked 10 Top Anti Ageing helpers for over 30s that give visible results without having to remorgage your house.
1. My first vote goes to trusted and adored Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II.
This multi award winning serum has amazing track record of loyal customers who swear by its hydrating, repairing, soothing and environmental damage preventing properties. You just need a drop before you go to sleep. When you wake up your skin is looking more beautiful every day.
2. Plantscription™ Anti-aging power serum by Origins is full of potent plant extracts from around the world. This anti-aging serum is silky in texture and glides perfectly onto the skin providing enough nourishment for the day.
The improvements are noticeable from the first application: wrinkles and lines are reduced, complexion is clearer and visibly firmer.
3. S5 Illuminate Serum is a creation of the same team that developed luxury natural range NUDE skincare and believe in natural solution for every skin problem. Marine Enzymes, Alpine Plant Blend, Kombucha and Laminaria work in synergy to tackle the problem of premature aging, hyperpigmentation and dull looking skin. If you are looking for a treatment address dark spots and melasma combined with wrinkle-reducing and skin-firming benefits then this serum is for you. It will help to even out the skin tone, improve skin firmness, smoothness and lock in moisture, reduce dark circles.
For me 2014 was all about highlighting and contouring. I have witnessed it not only on catwalks and photo shoots but on buses and behind the tills, on the beach and on school run.
The trick here is to do it subtlety and professionally so you don’t end up looking like you have been punched.

If you are confused about vast choice of BBs and CCs that are around then you can breath out because you are not the only one.
Ok, let's get to know them better. 'BB' stands for 'beauty balm' and by that it means: it's a primer, light foundation, moisturiser, sunscreen in one. 'CC' stands for 'colour correct ' and almost contains the same combo of light foundation and moisturiser and so on as BB with a slight twist. CCs address issues such as redness and pigmentation whether BBs are there to provide lighter coverage with some skin care benefits. Although CC is designed to go under your foundation I have witnessed great results where no further coverage was needed.
If your skin is normal to dry and has not got any visible colour issues I would recommend using BBs but if you need more concealing to hide imperfections and have anti ageing concerns then CC is your best choice.
Being a make up artist I am fortunate enough to try products by different brands not just on myself but on my clients and see what textures work better on various skin types, age groups and skin concerns.
Quite often if it's a 'natural' look we make up artists would not plaster foundation on a model but use a bit of BB or CC cream. And if you follow Fashion Weeks updates from around the world you will notice that head make up artists are creating more of a dewy and natural looking skins. It was certainly the case during last couple of seasons at LFW. Current market is full of BBs and CCs to fit every budget and skin demand but my absolute winners are the following:
1. Darphin CC Cream Instant Multi-Benefit Care SPF35
Its super silky texture glides on to the skin and creates a perfect flawless and radiant finish thanks to light reflecting pearls. Darphin CC is perfect for tired skin that needs some loving. Provides good coverage and does not require further concealing.
2. YSL Forever Light Creator CC cream SPF35
Barely there milky texture almost melts into the skin yet hydrating enough and quite pigmented. You only need a pea size of the cream that will awaken your complexion. Comes in three shades Apricot, Lavender and Rose. Apricot: for a healthy golden glow, Lavender: natural bright glow, Rose: for a fresh rose glow.
Being a make up artist does not mean that you should fill up your kit with everything MAC anymore. In fact I love spotting unique and previously unheard of make up goodies in my fellow MUA's kits. We love looking for new things that will put an extra weight into our kits and at the same time add an extra insentive to it.
I cannot recall what exactly I was googling for but to my great surprise I had a pleasure of discovering this quirky beauty brand called Rouge Bunny Rouge that was born in Moscow and now Moscow - London based.
My name is Yelena and I am a make up artist, skin specialist and a beauty writer based in London.
